We have decided to continue along the same lines as last year and, rather than having one open session to start with where all 5/6 teams are in attendance, we will stagger selection/practice so that captains can have more control over attendance and can invite the people present that they want. This will mean that once again liaison between captains is vital - for example our ladies 3rd team captain cannot pick her team until she has liaised with the ladies 2nd team captain to find out who is likely to be used in the higher team. Also of course the 3rd team captain should liaise with the 4th team captain regarding players who should be considered for her team. We have had people back from injury and new members join so there may be some changes within teams.

As in previous years the ladies 5ths and mens 6ths will be open to anyone looking to play team tennis, we are not expecting complete beginners to play in matches but we are making sure that there is the option open to anyone who would like one or two games and who want to gain more match experience. It is also an important part of junior development to make their first forays into senior tennis - again these aren't juniors who haven't had any match experience - most will have played our annual tournament and their own matches.

Opening Season Tournament Sat 6 April - Sat 13 April

Sat 6 April - Sat 13 April

  • Matches will consist of one first – to - nine set (with a tie-break at 8 all)
  • There will be 5 events – none are age-related
  • All first round losers will progress into a reverse draw so all competitors will be guaranteed at least two matches in each event they enter
  • As matches consist of just one set, you may be required to play 2 matches back-to-back (as in league matches).
  • All finals (including reverse draws) will be held on Saturday 13th April
  • To make the tournament more open, it is requested that first team players (from last season) do not play with other first team players in the doubles events
  • Please complete an entry form and send to Andy Parker, 48, Old Church Road, Enderby St. John’s, Leics, LE19 2EE or e-mail your entry to arparker1958@gmail.com by Saturday 16th March. The draw will take place the weekend of 23rd/24th March at the club.
  • A fee of £3.00 should be included with your entry form (regardless of how many events entered). Cheques should be made payable to Oadby (Granville) Tennis Club
If your entry is e-mailed, please pay your entry fee at the club.
  • All full senior members, students and Invited Juniors are welcome to take part
  • If you would like us to find a partner for you for a doubles event, please put ‘Partner Required’ in the appropriate space on the form and we will do our best to help
  • The match schedule for the first two days of the tournament will be online/on display at the club during week beginning 25th March. We will e-mail all entrants with an e-mail address with details of how to access the schedule on line
  • It is up to all competitors to check when they are due to play. It is unlikely that any changes to availability can be accommodated once forms have been sent in. If you do need to tell the organisers about a change then, as last year, details must be written down on the sheet on the referee’s table. This is to avoid missed messages/calls/e-mails etc. which have caused problems in the past

  • If you have limited availability, please do not enter all 3 events
