Men's Aegon Oadby v LFE 2Sitting in the clubhouse watching the tennis this afternoon it was suggested that as non-playing captain today i could do a write-up report on the match so here it is!On a weather forecast defying day of amazing sunshine the pressure was on the players not to disappoint. The opposition today were LFE 2 and i think its fair to say they were missing a few of their regular players but as they say 'you can only beat what's in front of you'As captain it is great to welcome back Ben Minski to the team after a few years voluntary work helping another club win every week. Also playing were the regular old guard of Poultney and Harris and young Eddy Smart making his Men's Aegon debut at number 4.Watching alongside me was a massive crowd of 8 people keen to see how Eddy would get on and taking bets on whether Ben's match would last longer than the ridiculously long warm-ups that everyone was having!Luckily for the huge crowd the tennis didn't disappoint. Ben's match lasted just longer than his warm up and he has to pay for a fine as he lost a game, only winning 6-0 6-1. Big wins for Dan and Phil also 6-1 6-1 and 6-0 6-3 respectively. Eddy came through his match impressively 7-5 7-5 and is clearly learning a lot with every game he plays which is great to see. With a few more inspiring chats from David Straker he will be a top player soon! After drawing straws to see who had to play with Phil in the doubles, the matches capped off the afternoon nicely with an easy 6-0 and 6-0 win for Poultney and Harris and a close 7-5 7-5 win for Minski and Smart.Player of the day: Eddy Smart - mature performance from the youngster and getting better with every matchHighlight of the day: Paul Heighton-Towers sitting down on a soaking wet chair so he had to go and change his shorts providing a lot of belly laughs for all that sawOnto the next match - Westfields at home on Sunday 10th May at 1.30 Hope to see you there!Alex
